autumn sky

Although the weather was humid as ever today, the sky looked like fall. The color blue was more intense, and the air clearer than we see during the summer. Mosquitoes seem to know instinctively that their time is waning: they crowd around your arms and legs like rabid fans waiting for a star’s autograph. (Except they don’t wait. They just bite. Hard.)

The beauty of the sky today triggered a tiny spark of enthusiasm for autumn’s arrival. I’m not ready for winter (I’m never ready). But the brilliant sky reminded me of the gorgeous palette of fall colors, the crisp breezes, and the short-lived novelty of pulling out sweaters for the first time.

I’m not quite ready. Not yet. But the sky brought me a step closer.
